Movie Lovers love

All for the love of

Made for tv

Being a hardcore movie lover is not always the easiest thing to do. Unlike movie snobs who pick and choose what they deem worthy of watching (usually semi-indie art house films) I have to wade through a lot of crap because I give everything a chance. However due to that I found one of the best movie experiences of my life somewhere I was not expecting. No it wasn’t an indie film, it wasn’t a major block buster, not foreign, heck not even direct to dvd…

One of my favorite film experiences of all time has to be, without a doubt, Band of Brothers. Sitting at an extremely solid 90% on Rotten Tomatoes its fairly obvious others agree. So what exactly is it? Well…

Band of Brothers is a HBO series from the minds of Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks. It is based on the Stephen Ambrose book “Band of Brothers: E Company, 506th Regiment, 101st Airborne From Normandy to Hitler’s Eagle’s Nest”.

The show follows the path of Easy Company, an elite paratrooper unit, as they go from basic training in Camp Toccoa, to parachuting into D-Day, to their critical role in the Battle of the Bulge, and finally their triumph at the end of the war. They were one of the best trained and most successful units in all of American military history.

Band of Brothers was nominated for 19 Emmy awards, and won 6. It won a Golden Globe for “Best Mini-Series or Motion Picture Made for Television”. The award winning series also won an American Film Institute Award, a Peabody Award, and a Writer’s Guild Award. Check out the trailer here…

If you have nothing to do this weekend, or if it happens to be a crapy day in your neighborhood, please I beg you go out and rent, buy, or steal the Band of Brothers box set. You won’t be disappointed.
